John, I read your article on Globalcontinuity.com and I cannot agree with you more. I have found from developing and running training exercises from Crisis Management Teams through to Business Recovery Teams, they all learn so much and not only are their assumptions challenged, they realise that they need even more training. One of the factors I build into training exercises is the "right to fail", and that there are no wrong decisions, only learning points. This way the exercise teams are allowed to try different approaches based on their original plan. It is the only way to design out the dangerous assumptions made within the planning development.
